Understanding the Electric Micro-mobility Usage and Exploring Its Future Potential
Confirmation seminar presented by Yikang Wu
Electric Micro-Mobility (EMM) devices, such as electric bikes and electric scooters, are increasingly attracting attention worldwide and are recognised as active transportation methods that can reduce congestion and promote decarbonisation. However, the rapid incorporation of EMM devices can pose significant challenges to current transportation infrastructures, which are not prepared for widespread adoption of EMM. This study examines EMM from two primary viewpoints. From the perspective of the end-user, the primary goal is to understand individuals' decision-making processes concerning EMM usage, forming the basis of the research. Furthermore, the research underscores the importance of enhancing the EMM infrastructure at the urban level from the governance perspective to improve the EMM experience and support the broader progression of the transportation system. Eventually, an dedicated cycling network that takes into account the high adoption rates of EMM is suggested to accommodate significant cycling activities and to balance the allocation of vehicle and cycling lanes on the roads.
About Confirmation Seminars
The purpose of the confirmation milestone is to ensure that the candidate receives appropriate feedback in relation to the viability and progress of the thesis project and that the resources required to complete the program of research within the recommended timeframe are available. It is also an opportunity to ensure that the candidate has demonstrated the capacity and capability to successfully complete the thesis in a timely manner.
