Improved simulation of the setup phenomenon exhibited by driven piles
Confirmation seminar presented by Edward Smith
Pile setup refers to the time dependent increase in driven pile capacity following installation. This research project aims to improve the reliability and generality of setup predictions through the development of a robust and efficient numerical modelling approach. In enabling these more reliable predictions, opportunities to optimise construction projects through reduced pile lengths or increased utilisation of float in construction timelines may be realised. This confirmation seminar outlines the mechanisms which may contribute to pile setup, the proposed modelling techniques, and the current progress towards their implementation.
About Confirmation Seminars
The purpose of the confirmation milestone is to ensure that the candidate receives appropriate feedback in relation to the viability and progress of the thesis project and that the resources required to complete the program of research within the recommended timeframe are available. It is also an opportunity to ensure that the candidate has demonstrated the capacity and capability to successfully complete the thesis in a timely manner.
