Confirmation seminar presented by Jiayue Hu

A hydraulic jump occurs when a high-velocity supercritical flow in an open channel transition suddenly to a subcritical flow. In this study, new experiments with low inflow Froude numbers (2.1 < Fr1 < 3.8) and relatively large Renolds numbers (1.36×105 < Re < 2.46×105) were conducted in large-size facilities. This project aims to re-visit the work of Rouse et al. (1958) by developing an analogy between hydrodynamics and aerodynamics to gain new expert knowledge in terms of turbulence and dissipation, implicitly air bubble entrainment in hydraulic jumps in water flumes and wind tunnel.

About Confirmation Seminars

The purpose of the confirmation milestone is to ensure that the candidate receives appropriate feedback in relation to the viability and progress of the thesis project and that the resources required to complete the program of research within the recommended timeframe are available. It is also an opportunity to ensure that the candidate has demonstrated the capacity and capability to successfully complete the thesis in a timely manner.
