Confirmation seminar presented by Abel Quintero Fuentes

The increasing willingness to adopt and use low and zero-emission vehicles (LZEVs) is a good sign for the decarbonisation of the transport sector. However, it poses new challenges for the transport infrastructure, as the new era of road transport will be linked to the electricity grid through the charging infrastructure. Thus, understanding the interaction between the transport and electricity sector is crucial to develop the required infrastructure to support the rapid uptake of LZEVs, and a holistic approach is required. In this research, a modelling tool for helping diverse stakeholders to take meaningful decisions for developing charging infrastructure will be developed. It will support the long-term planning for the required charging infrastructure serving different purposes and stakeholders’ needs, including optimisation of the number of vehicles served, minimising costs, minimising the impact on the distribution grid and maximising the use of renewable energy.

About Confirmation Seminars

The purpose of the confirmation milestone is to ensure that the candidate receives appropriate feedback in relation to the viability and progress of the thesis project and that the resources required to complete the program of research within the recommended timeframe are available. It is also an opportunity to ensure that the candidate has demonstrated the capacity and capability to successfully complete the thesis in a timely manner.
