Confirmation seminar presented by Guangyu Rong

The integration between life cycle assessment (LCA) and Building Information modelling (BIM) can support a better decision-making process by incorporating environmental information in the early design stage. However, the interoperability between them still requires improvement to eliminate identified issues such as low levels of automation, limited life cycle coverage and high dependency on user inputs. Thus, after reviewing all viable strategies, the candidate proposes a framework based on industry foundation classes (IFC) schema to enable non-proprietary information exchange between BIM and LCA tools. Its realisation can improve the current practice and facilitate green design in the construction industry.

About Confirmation Seminars

The purpose of the confirmation milestone is to ensure that the candidate receives appropriate feedback in relation to the viability and progress of the thesis project and that the resources required to complete the program of research within the recommended timeframe are available. It is also an opportunity to ensure that the candidate has demonstrated the capacity and capability to successfully complete the thesis in a timely manner.
