White cypress pine is a native softwood tree found abundantly in Australia and has been used in construction for over 100 years. The environmental impacts of this timber product are unclear. The proposed research will quantify embodied energy (EE) and global warming potential of white cypress sawn timber and measure the EE and embodied carbon of a cypress-based modular home via a cradle-to-site LCA. The study will compare differences in softwood LCI database values versus the EE and GWP of white cypress pine. The study will compare a modular house of the same design but replacing structural components with steel.
