Structural engineering facilities
UQ Structures is located in the AEB and possesses comprehensive and state-of-the-art facilities to foster research quality and professional growth in all aspects of structural engineering.
A strong team of professional technicians and research ensures continued growth in breadth of work conducted with Structures facilities. This growth is further supported by recent funding from an ARC LIEF grant of $500,000 and a UQ EAIT Equipment and Infrastructure grant of $290,000.
- Strong floor and reaction wall
- 1MN and 10MN MTS machines
- Actuators and data loggers.
- Concrete facilities (including Rheometer)
- Wind Tunnel
- Digital fabrication workshop
- Composites workshop
- Computational resources
Partners
The Structures team additionally has a close working relationship with the below partners. These relationships allow the team to access an extended network of specialist facilities to ensure agile and cost effective experimental investigations.
Funded by the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Brisbane Salisbury Research Facility are a dedicated wood products R&D facility. They have recently opened a $1.3million Timber Composites lab that includes equipment to manufacture and test timber products in a controlled environment.
The UQ Composites Group possess world-class facilities for the manufacturing, testing and characterisation of composite materials. The group is co-located in the Advanced Engineering Building and the Centre for Advanced Materials Manufacturing and Processing at the University's St Lucia campus.
The UQ School of Architecture possess extensive workshop facilities including a student collaborative lab, a complete timber workshop, and digital fabrication machines including 3D printers, laser cutters, and six axis robotic arms. The School is located in the Zelman Cowen Building at UQ's St Lucia campus, across the road from the Advanced Engineering Building.
