Evaluation of recycled hardwood composite sandwich panels with bio-fibre cores for use in flexural applications
Confirmation seminar presented by Duncan Hossy
With recent restrictions on native forest harvesting in Australia, there has been a significant squeeze on the supply chain in the Australian hardwood industry. This calls for innovation to find ways to better utilise this rare material in high value structural applications. Utilising this material as a facing for structural insulated panels (SIPs) increases the utilisation of this material in both structural and durability applications. The durable nature of Australia’s high-density hardwoods also renders it a probable candidate for the use of recycled timber in such applications too, which further enhance fibre recovery and the overall environmental benefit.
About Confirmation Seminars
The purpose of the confirmation milestone is to ensure that the candidate receives appropriate feedback in relation to the viability and progress of the thesis project and that the resources required to complete the program of research within the recommended timeframe are available. It is also an opportunity to ensure that the candidate has demonstrated the capacity and capability to successfully complete the thesis in a timely manner.
