Student Spotlight Interview: Cadey Lange - Lendlease Women in Civil Engineering Scholar

We sat down with Cadey Lange, a civil engineering student completing a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) / Bachelor of Computer Science dual program, and recipient of the Lendlease Women in Civil Engineering Scholarship, to talk about her experiences, achievements, and advice for future applicants.

Cadey Lange - recipient of the Lendlease Women in Civil Engineering Scholarship.

What motivated you to apply for the Lendlease Women in Civil Engineering Scholarship?

I’m always looking for new opportunities around campus, and the Lendlease Women in Civil Engineering Scholarship sounded like just that. Specifically, it provided interviewees with the chance to speak with like-minded engineers who had many years of experience in the industry. That opportunity to connect with experienced professionals was a major motivator for me.

How has this scholarship supported your studies or career goals?

The scholarship has allowed me to continue my community service here at UQ by minimising the financial burden of supporting myself while living away from home. This support has helped me stay involved as a UQ Women in Engineering Student Leader, the Social Officer for the SKIRTS student-led society, and a contributor to the Leaders at EAIT Pathway Program.

What opportunities or experiences has the scholarship helped you pursue?

It encouraged me to consider going on exchange and how overseas courses - especially those not traditionally taught in Australia, like Geotechnical Hazards or Seismic Events - could fit into my study plan. It’s helped me explore new areas of civil engineering and broaden my future career direction.

What advice would you give to future students considering applying for the scholarship?

Just go for it! Lendlease is an amazing company, so the networking opportunity you get from simply making it to the interview round is priceless. Someone has to get the scholarship, so why not you? If you’re interested in construction, you could even be fast-tracked when applying for a vacation role with the company.

Could you share a favourite memory or a proud moment from your studies so far?

I’m really proud to be tutoring courses including ENGG1700 (Statics and Materials), CIVL2131 (Fluid Mechanics) and CIVL3155 (Hydrology and Free Surface Flow). Students often show immense gratitude when you break down difficult topics into easier portions, and it’s a great opportunity to give back to the university. Tutoring also helps with self-development and reinforces my own knowledge, which builds confidence that carries into both my studies and industry projects.

Cadey’s passion for learning, leadership, and giving back to the engineering community highlights the impact of the Lendlease Women in Civil Engineering Scholarship and we extend our huge thanks to Lendlease and our other partners for helping to empower future generations of women engineers. We’re proud to showcase her achievements and look forward to seeing where her career takes her next.
